Due to drop in minimum temperature, many plains and hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh are in the grip of cold wave. The minimum temperature has been recorded at minus at 16 places in the state including the plains district Una. During the last 24 hours, minimum temperatures at most places remained 2-3 degrees Celsius below normal. Whereas at some places (central hilly areas) it has been 1-2 degrees Celsius below normal. Due to the huge drop in minimum temperature, the coldness in the morning and evening has increased in most areas of the state.
Meteorological Center Shimla has predicted clear weather in all parts of the state till December 19. According to the department, there will be no major change in the temperature for the next 48 hours. After this, the minimum and maximum temperatures will gradually increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius in many parts of the state for the next 2-3 days. On the other hand, the third case of death due to cold has come to light in Shimla. In the capital Shimla, one person died due to cold and a woman died due to slipping on ice in the courtyard of her house.

87 percent less rainfall than normal in December
This month, from December 1 to 13, 87 percent less rainfall than normal has been recorded in the state. 10.5 mm rainfall was considered normal for this period but in reality only 1.3 mm rainfall was recorded. Bilaspur recorded 95 percent less rainfall than normal, Chamba 100, Hamirpur 63, Kangra 100, Kinnair 62, Kullu 98, Lahail-Spiti 84, Mandi 86, Shimla 71, Sirmair 99, Solan 82 and Una 99 percent less rainfall.
The quota of ration for the snow bound areas of the district will be delivered before December 20. After the ration consignment reaches the Food Supply Department, it is now being sent to the depot. There are total 74 depots in inaccessible areas in Kullu district. Thousands of population are connected to them. By getting lump sum winter ration in these depots, the villagers will not face any problem regarding ration during winter.
