A two-day national level Direct Selling Conclave organised by Shoolini University and Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA) concluded in the campus on Wednesday.
The central objective of the conclave was to add an academic vertical to the Direct Selling industry. The conclave involved all key stakeholders of the industry, like the distributors, companies, regulators, educationists, industry associations and critics.
Chancellor, Prof. PK Khosla, Vice Chancellor, Prof Atul Khosla, President Innovation, Mr Ashish Khosla and Pro-Chancellor, Mr Vishal Anand along with key leaders across the direct selling industry participated in the two day long conclave.
Dr. Kamal Kant Vashisth, Director-CEDSA, set the context for the conclave and what the participants can look forward to in the ensuing two days. Three panel discussions with experts across the spectrum gave many insights to the participants. Rajat Banerjee, Chairman – IDSA, highlighted the need to be real and stay away from unnecessary hype. Key industry leaders like, Mr Anil Narang, Mr Surender Vats, Prof. Vasupalaiah, Mr Sajeev Nair and all others shared about how positive they are about the industry and its potential.
Golden Rudraksha Awards for exemplary work in their respective fields and their contributions to the industry was given to Mr Deepak Bajaj, Mr Surender Vats, Mr Rajat Banerjee, Mr Hem Kumar Pandey and Mr Samir Modi.
Samir Modi is the President of the Confederation of Asia Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI). He is also a member of the FICCI National Executive Committee, FICCI Steering Committee and Member, International Board of Directors, NACS (National Association of Convenience Stores) said he believes in nurturing success and empowering people to pursue and realise dreams.
A detailed report on the discussions and actionable output will be initiated for all the stakeholders. The report would make observations on the current situation, various challenges and its solutions recommended during the discussions and the way forward for the industry in this ever-changing and dynamic environment. Everyone recognised that the need of the hour is to have more awareness and shun practices which bring disrepute to the industry.
There was healthy debate on success ratios for a distributor and complete consensus on isolating mis-selling by any individual or any entity. The conclave will be an annual event which will bring all stakeholders together and work towards making direct selling as one of the career choices which the youth can look forward to.
Based out of the University’s campus in Solan, CEDSA is first of its kind centre in the entire South Asia, and third overall the world.
The recommendations of the conclave will be documented and presented to the industry, regulators and associations for follow-up action.
