Shimla
Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur said that criminals have become so unbridled under the Sukh government that they are tarnishing the state’s image. The incidents occurring in every corner of the state, including the capital, show that no one is safe in the state. Neither children, youth, nor elderly women are safe. People are neither safe in their families nor in the markets. Administrative officers are also absconding in cases of rape of women. This is unfortunate for the state. Such incidents are occurring because the police have become a tool to appease their political masters. They are solely busy spying and monitoring BJP leaders and officials, while the lives of the people of the state are at risk. The people of the state are paying the price for the government’s incompetence.
Jairam Thakur said that just looking at some of the headlines of the past few days is frightening. There are thousands of headlines. A pregnant woman’s half-burnt body was found in Una, with her nephew slitting her uncle’s throat. A deputy head was brutally murdered by slitting his throat. A minor was molested in Sanjauli, Shimla, and the victim and her mother were threatened with death if they resisted. The body of a 63-year-old woman was found in Chuwari, Chamba, brutally murdered. A national athlete was raped by the SDM, and the woman accused him of sexual assault. The SDM has been absconding for eight days. Police have not been able to reach the SDM accused of rape. A woman was murdered after a gang rape in Banjar, and the police concealed the incident for a month. An international conspiracy is suspected in the Gaggi murder case, with links to the underworld. A child consumed poison due to torture in Rohru. A body was found in suspicious circumstances during wedding preparations in Bilaspur. A young man who went hunting in Chamba was murdered. A teacher mistreated a minor. Three students were kidnapped from Shimla. Space will be insufficient, and the story will be exhausting. It will start to feel scary, but this cycle will not end. The government is unable to respond effectively to the Supreme Court’s notice on illegal mining and deforestation. The government doesn’t even have accurate data on the number of youth dying from drug abuse.
Jai Ram Thakur said that it is sad that the government is silent on this entire issue. It is providing protection. The last time Himachal Pradesh Police was in the news was when it stood up to the CBI to prevent the investigation into the death of HPPCL Chief Engineer Vimal Negi. The DGP, SP, AG, and CS all threw mud at each other. The Himachal Police, renowned worldwide for its discipline, and the state itself were severely criticized. The reputation earned over decades was shattered, but the government maintained silence as if the government’s tail was under the feet of these officers. The limits of indiscipline were crossed. The court also raised questions, but the Chief Minister remained silent. No action was taken against those responsible. Those who spoke out against wrongdoing were punished. The DGP’s retirement party was not held when he supported a CBI investigation. This, too, is a part of the state’s history. Others were spared, and the accused were honored. This clearly signals the government’s priorities to the police administration. In all the cases mentioned above, the police and the system have failed. Yet, no action has been taken against those responsible. This silence by the government is called patronage by the government.
Jai Ram Thakur stated that the reason for these incidents increasing in the state lies with the government. They have a soft corner for criminals. In Chamba, a minor state child was raped, she became pregnant, then delivered the baby in another state, was sold, and the minor was married off. To hide one crime, another crime was committed. Everyone from the Chief Minister to the village watchman knew about the incident, but paperwork was only done when a BJP MLA raised the issue in the House. Such a major incident, in which the victim is a state child, whose custodian is the Chief Minister himself, and the local guardian is the District Magistrate. Such a grave incident happens to that girl, and everyone, despite knowing it, turns a blind eye? There can be no greater sin than remaining silent despite knowing about the crime. But the government’s silence, despite everyone from top to bottom knowing about the crime, is deeply painful. The officials have grasped the government’s pulse. The Manohar murder case in Chamba is a culmination of the Chief Minister’s statement about defeating Hindutva. The government refuses to give anything to the people; it would be a great kindness if they let them keep what they have. He said that it would be better if the Chief Minister abandons his weakness and fulfills his responsibility to protect the lives and property of the people of the state and takes action against irresponsible officials.
