*Funds were spent by ignoring the government process, demand for investigation*
Hamirpur, 29 July.
Former MLA of Sujanpur Rajendra Rana levelled serious allegations of corruption against Nagar Parishad Sujanpur and said that corruption in the area is now coming to the fore and the councillors of Nagar Parishad themselves are exposing it. He alleged that huge irregularities are being committed in public welfare works and misuse of government money is happening openly.
In a statement issued here today, Rajendra Rana said that there was a plan to renovate the well in ward number 6 with the funds received under the 15th Finance Commission, but in the name of repair, the work was completed by just laying tiles. The surprising thing is that the tiles were laid even before the tender process began, which is a sign of disregard for government rules and clearly corruption.
He said that later a formal tender was issued for this work, which makes it clear that the whole matter was done under a pre-planned scheme and political pressure. The former MLA alleged that all this was done with the aim of benefiting the Congress-backed contractor and the Municipal Council officials are also involved in this.
Similarly, a tender of more than ₹8 lakh was issued for the construction of a stepwell near the crematorium in ward number 3,4, while the actual work was limited to only ₹2 lakh. He raised the question as to where the remaining amount went and in whose pocket it went.
Rajendra Rana also said that in the year 2023, the foundation stone of the rain shelter to be built for the elderly to sit in Ward No. 9 was laid, but despite two decades having passed, the work could not be started, even though funds have been received from the central government for this.
He said that there are many works for which a budget has been allocated, but the works are either incomplete or have been completed only on paper. He alleged that all this together is an open loot of public money.
He demanded from the state government that these cases should be investigated immediately and strict action should be taken.
The former MLA said that if there is any honesty left in the Congress government of the state, then it should not ignore these serious matters. He said that if the government turns a blind eye, then the public will give its own verdict in the coming times.
