With the aim of promoting cow rearing and milk production in the state and economically empowering the people associated with it, the government has started ‘Him Ganga’ scheme. The state will develop its own dairy market through Him Ganga, which will strengthen the animal husbandry business here. Agriculture Minister Prof. while interacting with cattle herders and people associated with dairy farming in Dhanotu of Shahpur assembly constituency. Chandra Kumar said this. Agriculture Minister along with MLA Shahpur Kewal Singh Pathania reached the dairy farm of progressive cowherd Milap Chand in Dhanotu.
Listened to the problems of cattle herders
The Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister, while discussing with the cattle rearers in Dhanotu, heard in detail the problems faced by them. Appreciating the work of the cow herders, he assured to resolve the problems. He instructed the department to prepare a vaccination schedule for the vaccination of animals and to deal with health related problems. He said that the work of cow rearing and cow service is very praiseworthy and beneficial for the society. He said that the government is working with complete planning so that more and more families move towards cow rearing and the milk production business becomes profitable.
Provision of Rs 500 crore for Him Ganga
He said that to make animal husbandry business profitable, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has announced ‘Him Ganga’ scheme in the budget, which aims to develop milk-based economy in the state. He said that a provision of Rs 500 crore has been made for the Him-Ganga scheme. Under the ‘Him-Ganga’ scheme, cattle farmers will get fair price of milk and milk products on the basis of actual cost and efforts will be made to increase the quality and efficiency of milk procurement, processing and marketing systems.
Cooperative societies will be formed for milk producers
The Agriculture Minister said that the government is determined to develop a well-organized model of dairy farming in the state. He said that to increase the income of milk producers, milk producer cooperative societies will be formed as per requirement, which will ensure effective marketing of milk and its related products. He said that dairy farming business will be strengthened in the villages. He said that common villagers and cow herders will be linked to this committee, through which their milk products will be directly purchased by the government.
Dhagwar milk processing plant will be upgraded with Rs 250 crore.
Pro. Chandra Kumar said that Dhagwar milk processing plant in Kangra district will be upgraded. He said that the government will invest Rs 250 crore for this. He said that Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu himself has visited it. He said that the upgradation of the milk processing plant located at Dhagwar will strengthen the milk procurement, processing and marketing system.
