₹20 Lakh Renovation After 15 Years; New Swings Installed for Children
Shimla: The park at the famous Sankat Mochan Temple in the capital city of Himachal Pradesh will now be seen in a refreshed and modern form, offering better facilities to tourists and local children alike. The renovation of the Sankat Mochan Temple Park marks a significant step towards improving public amenities in Shimla.
The transformation has been made possible due to the efforts of Anupam Kashyap, Deputy Commissioner of Shimla, whose initiative to revive the neglected park has been widely appreciated.
Sankat Mochan is one of the city’s most revered temples, visited daily by hundreds of devotees. However, the adjoining park had remained in a dilapidated condition until last year. The swings installed in the park were broken, forcing children to play on bare ground. The park was originally constructed in 2004 and remained in use until around 2010. For nearly 15 years thereafter, no renovation work was carried out, leading to a gradual decline in its condition and appeal.
During an inspection conducted last year, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap took note of the poor state of the park and immediately issued directions for its renovation. Work has been underway for the past several months. According to him, the park is being redeveloped at a cost of approximately ₹20 lakh to enhance the overall attractiveness of the temple परिसर.
As part of the renovation, a variety of new swings have been installed for children. Green carpeting has been laid across the park to provide a safe and comfortable play surface. In addition, new play equipment, decorative toys, and statues have been placed for children’s recreation, along with proper seating arrangements for visitors.
The administration aims to complete the remaining work within a week. The Deputy Commissioner stated that the park will be opened to tourists and local children later this month, restoring it as a vibrant and welcoming recreational space for the community.
