The Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics reached out to different Colleges to conduct Mock GAT-B test to create awareness among the students, and other stakeholders, highlighting the career opportunities. This test was conducted in 17 Govt colleges across Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. The Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics organised a felicitation program for the JUIT mock GAT-B Achievers. A prize distribution for the Toppers of individual colleges and high score achievers in the Mock GAT-B test was organized on 10 May 2025, at the Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat. An appreciation Cash prize, Memento and a Certificate were presented to the Toppers of Individual Colleges. Mementos and certificates were also given to the high scorers. Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Jaypee University, Prof Rajendra Kumar Sharma, congratulated prize winners and motivated them to do well in their future careers.
Prof Sudhir Kumar, Dean, ‘Research and Internationalisation’ addressed the students and complemented the achievers about their success and emphasised the importance of further education to excel in their fields and for better job opportunities. He also informed about the high standards of teaching and research in the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics of Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat.
Prof Jata Shankar, Head of the Department, mentioned that the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics is running different Undergraduate and PG programs in the area of Biotechnology, especially MSc Biotechnology and MSc Microbiology and MTech Biotechnology. He emphasised the importance of the GAT B test to not boost self-confidence but how it shapes the individual career in the scientific field.
At the beginning of the event the students and guests were welcomed by Prof. Anil Kant, the coordinator of the event. He told the Graduate aptitude test (GAT-B) is conducted by DBT Govt of India via NTA and qualified student get opportunity to get admissions in post graduate programs in Biotechnology and related fields in some the topmost institutes of India with a scholarship ranging from 5000 to 12000 depending upon the stream. He hailed the students for their achievement and said that every achievement is a promise that their potential has no limits.
Prof Rahul Shrivastava, the Co-coordinator of the event restated to the students the importance of higher studies and how JUIT, Waknaghat is playing a key role in providing quality education by offering MSc Microbiology, MSc Biotechnology and MTech Biotechnology programs to eligible students. He took feedback from the students about their experience and exposure. He also thanked JUIT administration, authorities, faculty, staff and Ph.D. scholars of the Department for all the support and facilities to carry out the Mock GAT-B test at various colleges. After the main event a visit of invited students to laboratories and facilities in the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and Jaypee University Campus was carried out.
