On behalf of the District Disaster Management Authority Shimla, the district administration organised a rally today as Disaster Awareness Day in memory of those who lost their lives in the terrible earthquake that struck Kangra district on 4 April 1905. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap flagged off the children’s rally from CTO to Sher-e-Punjab. Passing through the Lower Bazaar, the children raised slogans and appealed to the people to be aware of earthquakes and disasters.
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said that on April 4, 2025, 120 years of the Kangra earthquake have been completed. An awareness rally was taken out in memory of the people who suffered during that unfortunate time. He said that during this time, along with paying tribute to the victims of the disaster, awareness activities were also organized regarding disaster management. During the earthquake in 1905, about 20 thousand people lost their lives while more than one lakh buildings were damaged.
He said that such a situation should never arise again and to deal with such disaster situations, special emphasis is being laid on disaster management so that the losses in case of a disaster can be minimized. Apart from this, a mock drill regarding earthquake was also organized in all the offices in the District Magistrate Bhawan.
