Shimla, April 8: The Directorate of Forensic Services, Himachal Pradesh, Shimla Hills, Junga has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Forensic Science, School of Science, Sandip University, Nashik, Maharashtra to strengthen collaboration in education, training, research and consultancy in the field of forensic science.
The agreement was signed by Dr Meenakshi Mahajan, Director, Directorate of Forensic Services, Himachal Pradesh, in the presence of Dr S.K. Pal, Assistant Director (Biology and Serology), and Naseeb Singh Patial, Assistant Director (Voice Analysis). Representing Sandip University were Prof Praveen Bharti, Registrar, Dr Nissar A. Reshi, Associate Dean, Dr Nidhi Pandya, Head of the Department of Forensic Science, and Assistant Professor Pritam Pandit.
The MoU will facilitate academic exchanges, internships, joint research initiatives, consultancy services and participation in national and international events. It aims to promote knowledge sharing and capacity building in the rapidly evolving field of forensic science.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mahajan described Sandip University as a promising institution offering specialised forensic science courses. He said the collaboration would benefit both institutions, particularly students who will gain exposure to advanced equipment and practical experience through scientific investigations conducted by the Directorate.
He added that the Directorate plays a crucial role in assisting investigative agencies in solving criminal cases using scientific methods. The agreement will initially remain in effect for three years.
