Shimla, January 7
Under the guidance of the District Magistrate and Chairperson, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, disaster management equipment is being provided to panchayats across the district. As part of this initiative, disaster management kits were distributed today to representatives of all 48 panchayats of Chopal Block.
The equipment has been provided under the Panchayat Emergency Response Centre Scheme with the objective of strengthening the disaster preparedness and response capacity of panchayats.
Under the scheme, each panchayat has been supplied with safety helmets, life jackets, ropes, search lights, lock and key, trunk, whistle, folding stretcher, tarpaulin, tents for personnel, pickaxe, axe, shovel, hammer, ladder, first-aid kit, and a megaphone.
On the occasion, representatives of all 48 panchayats of Chopal Block were also given necessary information regarding the proper use of the equipment.
Addressing the gathering, District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap said that panchayats play the most crucial role in disaster management, and therefore it is essential to equip them with adequate resources. He added that the equipment provided will ensure swift and effective response during natural disasters and emergency situations.
Block Development Officer Chopal Vineet Thakur, Documentation Coordinator of DDMA Shimla Gaurav Mehta, along with other officials, were also present on the occasion.
