Solan, March 4
The Belletristic Literature Society at Shoolini University organised a discussion session on food and its intersection with disciplines such as literature, history, and politics. The speaker for the session was Prof. Pratip Mazumdar, Director, Hospitality and Hotel Management, Shoolini University.
His wide ranging experiences in the hospitality industry, spanning decades of successful leadership roles and active academic engagement, brought to the audience interventions that were informative and inspiring, to say the least.
The moderator, Hemant Sharma, along with Prof. Manju Jaidka , Dean, Chitrakoot School of Liberal Arts, carried forward the discussion by asking several questions and making a few observations. The speaker elaborated upon the histories of various popular Indian dishes like “daal bukhaari, dum pukht biryani, and the sumptuous galouti kebabs”. The discussion also included deliberations on literature inspired by food and on food choices in light of food as a political tool to influence the masses.
