Doppler radar stations will be set up in Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti for accurate weather forecasting. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the matter of establishment of these new stations has been taken up with the Central Government. The process is in final stage.
The state government is committed to make maximum use of state-of-the-art technology for the benefit of the people of the state. The state government is also focusing on setting up a state-of-the-art seismic laboratory and data analysis center in Kangra and Hamirpur districts with the help of the central government, apart from setting up a Doppler radar station.
With the establishment of laboratory and data analysis center, not only will precious lives be saved, but accurate weather related information will also be available on time. This step of the government will prove to be helpful in taking quick measures to reduce the damage in the event of heavy rains and snowfall etc. in sensitive areas.
This will also help in alerting the district administration for correct assessment of the situation. Recently two Doppler radar stations have been established at Jot in Chamba district and Murari Devi in Mandi district. With this, 70 percent area of the state has already come under it.
This station provides scientific data on weather forecast within a radius of 100 km. With the establishment of two more stations in the state, timely weather forecast will be ensured in the entire state.
Doppler radar technology will enable the Meteorological Center to make accurate weather conditions and forecasts, which will also protect life and property in time. Himachal Pradesh is vulnerable to natural calamities, due to which the importance of radar stations in the state increases further.
