In Shimla, the capital of Himachal, a network of chitta smuggling is being run through drug addicted youth. This has been revealed in the investigation of chitta smuggling cases caught this year. It is a matter of concern that smuggling of chittas in large quantities from outside states is taking place in various areas of the district. Many interstate chitta smugglers are also active in this and apart from the city, they are also making inroads in the rural areas. Due to this, the youth of the district are sinking into the quagmire of drugs. Many has been arrested by the police till date.
In this, 50 maximum smugglers from Punjab state have been caught. Apart from this, drug smuggling is also taking place in the district from other states including Haryana and Delhi. Police action has revealed that drug smugglers are involved in the business of selling narcotics by taking rooms on rent in different areas of the district. Some time back, the police had caught two youths with sticks in Chalonthi of Shimla district.
Both the youths hailing from Punjab were carrying out chitta smuggling by taking a room on rent here. Apart from this, in July, the police had arrested four youths resident of Punjab and Amritsar with 169 grams of chitta. The four accused had come to the district with a consignment of drugs from Punjab and were planning to sell it but were caught by the police. Apart from this, a person named Akash Mathur from Delhi was caught selling Chitta in Sanjauli itself. Apart from this, the police has also taken major action against the Sanjay Bhuria gang smuggling Chitta in Rampur area and the gang of Shahi Mahatma who has been smuggling drugs for years in Rohru. Police have so far arrested 25 members of the Shahi Mahatma gang
