Shimla, February 16, 2026:
A case has been registered against an Assistant Professor at Himachal Pradesh University after his academic certificates were found to be fake during verification.
The professor, Vijay Singh, was appointed in the Department of Public Administration on September 28, 2024. As part of the recruitment process, he had submitted his educational documents, including school-level certificates.
During a routine check, the university sent the documents to the concerned school education board for verification on February 18, 2025. The board informed the university that the certificates were not genuine and had no record in its database.
Following this, the university registrar filed a complaint at Baluganj Police Station. Police have registered an FIR and started an investigation.
Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said that the case has been filed under Sections 318(4), 336(2), 336(3), and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police are now investigating how the fake certificates were prepared and whether anyone else was involved.
