A five-day training programme on High-Density Apple Plantation for 22 farmers of the Dodra-Kwar region of District Shimla was organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni at the university. The training was sponsored by the Department of Horticulture, Shimla.
Expect lectures on various aspects of high-density plantation, canopy management, nutrient use efficiency, orchard floor management, plant propagation and nursery management, role of honey bees in pollination and major insect, pests and diseases of fruit crops, etc. were delivered besides field visits and hand on trainings. The trainees also visited KVK Solan at Kandaghat where they were apprised of various scientific interventions and government schemes for the welfare of the farming community.
In the valedictory session, Director of Extension Education Dr. Divender Gupta stressed on adopting an integrated approach for insect/pest and disease management. He was also of the opinion that farmers should not only focus on quantity but also the quality of the produce keeping in view international market standards.
