The final delimitation of panchayats will be carried out on March 2 after the deadline for filing objections ended on February 27. Authorities will publish the final draft on March 2, following which a 10-day window for appeals will remain open until March 11.
Appeals will be heard by the Divisional Commissioner within seven days. Based on the decisions, a revised final publication must be issued by March 20. The state government has directed that the entire process of delimitation and preparation of the reservation roster be completed by March 31. The Panchayati Raj Department has issued instructions to all district Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to adhere to the schedule.
According to the directive, elections must be conducted within eight weeks of completing the process, making May 31 the deadline for polls. Pending delimitation work related to block reorganisation and formation of new gram panchayats must also be completed by March 20. District authorities have been instructed to carry out delimitation of Zila Parishad wards, Panchayat Samiti wards and Gram Panchayat wards (where not done earlier) as per the notified schedule. If new panchayats are to be constituted, their formation must be completed before March 20. Final reservation of electoral constituencies is mandatory by March 31.
Panchayat terms ended on January 31
Director of the Panchayati Raj Department Raghav Sharma has issued detailed instructions in this regard. Districts where ward delimitation and reservation have not yet been finalised have been directed to complete the process within the stipulated timeline.Elections are due in 3,586 panchayats and 73 urban local bodies across the state. The five-year tenure of elected representatives in panchayats ended on January 31, after which the government appointed administrators. Similarly, administrators have been appointed in 47 urban local bodies where the representatives’ term has concluded.
