Shimla, February 16:
A letter issued by the Principal Secretary (Finance), Government of Himachal Pradesh, has brought fresh political attention after Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reportedly denied sending an invitation regarding discussions on the state’s financial position and Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG).
The official communication, dated February 4, 2026, and addressed to all Hon’ble MLAs of Himachal Pradesh, clearly states that a presentation on the financial position of the state, following the report of the 16th Finance Commission, was scheduled for February 8, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the Conference Hall, Armsdale Building, Phase-III, Himachal Pradesh Secretariat, Shimla. The presentation was to be held before the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Members of the Legislative Assembly.
The letter, signed by the Principal Secretary (Finance), formally requested all MLAs to attend the scheduled presentation.
The development has triggered political debate, as questions are being raised over the Chief Minister’s statement denying the issuance of such an invitation, particularly in the context of discussions concerning the Revenue Deficit Grant and the participation of Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur.
The matter is now likely to intensify political discourse in the state.
