Shimla, April 6
The Cyber Crime Police in Himachal Pradesh have registered an FIR against unidentified individuals for allegedly spreading fake and misleading information targeting the Chief Minister on social media.
According to information received from the police, the complainant, Congress leader Baldev Thakur, stated in his complaint that a fake post was shared in the Chief Minister’s name from a Facebook handle named “Munnu Thakur.”
After investigating the content circulating online was found to be false and intended to mislead the public, potentially harming the reputation of the state government. Taking serious note of the matter, the cyber police initiated legal action and began an investigation to trace those responsible.
Authorities said efforts are underway to identify the origin of the posts and track the individuals or groups involved in disseminating the misinformation. Strict action will be taken against the culprits under relevant provisions of the law.
The police have also urged citizens to exercise caution while sharing content online and to verify information before forwarding it on social media platforms.
Officials reiterated that spreading fake news is a punishable offence and warned that violators will face legal consequences.
