Sujanpur
A fire broke out on the third floor of the Sainik School Sujanpur building on Tuesday afternoon around 1:20 PM. The Sujanpur Fire Station received the information and immediately rushed to the spot. Fire Station In-charge Rakesh Kumar, along with Sujanpur Police Station In-charge Rakesh Dhiman, reached the site with teams from the fire department, police personnel, and home guard volunteers.
Fortunately, the school is currently closed due to student holidays, otherwise a major accident could have occurred.
Due to the sudden fire, furniture kept on the third floor and several items stored in the NCC store room—including cadets’ uniforms, shoes, belts, and other materials—were completely burnt to ashes.
To control the blaze, additional fire tenders were called from Hamirpur district headquarters, Nadaun, and Jaisinghpur. After nearly one hour of continuous efforts, the fire was brought under control.
Fire Station In-charge Rakesh Kumar stated that repair work was underway on the third floor using welding. Prima facie, it is suspected that sparks from the welding work caused the fire, leading to heavy damage. He also said that with the help of police and home guard personnel, the school’s computer lab was successfully saved from catching fire.
Lieutenant Colonel Rajendra Kumar, who is currently overseeing administrative duties in Sujanpur, confirmed that he immediately informed the fire department and police as soon as the fire was noticed. The cause of the incident is being investigated.
