The local administration today started the distribution of foodgrain packets to migrant labourers who have been rendered jobless, following the lockdown. There are over 300 such labourers in Palampur who belong to Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. They have little or no money and are unable to move out of Palampur under current circumstances.
Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, Rakesh Prajapati is monitoring the distribution of foodgrain to poor all over the district and regularly seeking status reports from SDMs.
Palampur SDM Dharmesh Ramotra, while talking to mediapersons here today, said he along with the Tehsildar and other revenue officers today distributed packets carrying rice, wheat flour, pulses and salt to these persons by visiting their “jhuggis”. Besides, the administration also distributed sweets to their children.
The SDM said he already had identified such families in Palampur and its adjoining areas. He said the administration would provide foodgrains regularly to these people till the lockdown ends. He said today packets were distributed in the Thakurdwara locality.
He released mobile numbers for emergency cases, saying the administration would immediately deliver food packets at people’s doorstep.
