Shimla, February 21
An 86-year-old British national was found unconscious in a hotel room in Lower Kaithu area of Shimla in the early hours of Saturday and was later declared dead at the hospital.
According to police information, at around 12:00 AM on February 21, a telephonic message was received at the police station from Suryavanshi, a resident of Kaithu near Chitkara Park, stating that a foreign guest staying in his hotel was lying unconscious on the floor of Room No. 103.
Acting promptly, the Station House Officer along with the Deputy Superintendent of Police rushed to the spot. On verification at a hotel in Lower Kaithu, it was found that the deceased, identified as Mr. Barry Elvin Moss (86), a resident of 46 Rutland Road, England (UK), was staying in Room No. 103.
Preliminary inquiry with hotel staff revealed that the elderly guest had consumed a small quantity of alcohol. When he did not respond or open the door, hotel staff accessed the room and found him lying on the floor.
Police conducted a spot inspection and took necessary belongings into possession. The room has been sealed and the key secured. The body was shifted to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, where the Medical Officer declared him brought dead. The body has been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Correspondence has been initiated with the UK Embassy. Further proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) will be carried out after receiving a response from the embassy.
Police are continuing with the investigation.
