Foreign pilots dominated the Paragliding World Cup held at Beed Billing in Kangra district. USA’s Austin Cox won the World Cup trophy in the overall men’s category. Whereas India’s Ranjeet stood second. Poland’s Dominic finished third with a deficit of just 5 points. In the women’s category, Poland’s Joana Kota stood first, while Germany’s Daria stood second.
It is noteworthy that USA’s Austin was the winner of the Pre World Cup held in Bir Billing last year also.
Austin said that today was a fun day for him, and he was leading the competition from the very first day. At the same time, Jonah said that it was very encouraging to see the high mountains after flying from billing. A total of seven tasks were performed by the participants in the Billing Paragliding Association, out of which 2 tasks were canceled due to bad weather while one was a provisional task.
Anurag Sharma, president of BPA, said pilots from 23 countries participated in the World Cup, which began on November 2. Cabinet Minister Rajesh Dharmani gave away the prizes to the winners.
In the men’s overall category, USA’s Austin Cox was first with 3742.6 points, followed by Ranjeet Singh with 3557.3 points and Poland’s Dominik Kapica with 3552.4 points. In the women’s section, Poland’s Zona Kota finished first with 3194.7 points, followed by Germany’s Daria with 1870.7 points and Brazil’s Marina Alexina with 1820.9 points. In the Indian National category, Ranjeet Singh stood first, Sushant Thakur second and Amit Kumari third. Along with this, Indian pilots dominated in the group team. Ranjeet Singh, Amit Kumar and Suneet Rao secured the first position with 8953.3 points. Indian pilots Sushant Thakur, Ashwini Thakur and Yashpal scored 8913.7.
The winner of the overall category was given a cash prize and trophy of 2222 euros by the organizers of the competition, 1666 euros to the second-placed pilot and 1111 euros to the third-placed pilot. In the women’s category, the first-place pilot received 1,111 euros, the second-place pilot received 888 euros and the third-place pilot received 555 euros.
