A foreign tourist living for years in a rented house was found dead in Shanag village of Manali. The reason for death will be known only after the postmortem. Manali Police have taken the body into custody for further investigation.
According to police authorities, he came to India on passport numbers 034882335 and 210352330. However, the passport has expired in 2014. The identity of the dead man was John Michael, a resident of America. Police officers told John had been living in Daulat Ram’s house on rent since 2015. On Wednesday, his friend Vashisht, a resident of Kartik, came to meet him. In the presence of Panchayat Pradhan, Ward Member and landlord, the door was opened as there was no response from inside.
DSP Manali KD Sharma said that the body has been sent to the mortuary in Kullu for postmortem. The US Embassy has also been informed. The actual cause of death will be known only after the postmortem report arrives.
