Chamba
The Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh has been devastated by the recent heavy rains. This downpour has produced a landslide that has unfortunately claimed the lives of four persons. These occurrences have surfaced in the Mahla development block and district headquarters, where the wrath of nature has left many families in despair.
In the first occurrence, a brother and sister perished after being buried in a landslide in the Basodhan Panchayat of the Chamba region. Witnesses said that both of them had gone to see the landslide that was occurring close to their home. Subsequently, they became entangled in the heavy debris that began to fall from the slope. They were hauled out of the wreckage after much effort, but it was too late by the time rescue efforts were successful. They immediately perished. The entire hamlet is in grief as a result of this catastrophe.
The second incidence happened in the Mahla development block’s Bhimla Panchayat, when four ladies were caught in the landslide. Suddenly, large stones began to fall from the slope as these women were working close to their home. Two ladies were immediately killed in this catastrophe, and two others were gravely injured.
Rescue efforts to save the injured ladies were initiated right away by the community. The locals carried the injured ladies on cots and trekked 35 kilometers to Chamba Hospital because the rain had totally shut down the roads. The locals took them to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon after this event, which occurred on Tuesday. Chamba Medical College and Hospital is treating these injured women.
The challenges faced in managing disasters in Himachal Pradesh have been brought to light once more by this tragedy. The local government has urged residents to stay indoors during periods of intense rain and to keep away from steep regions. The government has promised to assist the relatives of the deceased in every way it can. Numerous highways have been blocked due to the ongoing rain, which has disrupted life and made rescue and relief efforts more difficult.
