Solan: In an unusual development, the Revenue Department has promoted four retired kanungos to the post of Naib Tehsildar in Solan district. Interestingly, the officials had retired from service eight to ten months ago.
However, the situation is not being termed a departmental lapse, as the notification promoting 20 kanungos to the post of Naib Tehsildar clearly mentioned the retirement status of these four officials. The development reportedly occurred due to delays in the promotion process.
Such a case is said to be rare, where employees are promoted after their retirement. A key question now is whether they will be entitled to financial benefits associated with the higher post. Nevertheless, they can now use the designation of “Retired Naib Tehsildar” with their names. Had the promotion process been completed a year earlier, they might have had the opportunity to serve in the higher post.
The four retired officials include Prem Chand (retired April 30, 2025), Sawaran Kumar (retired May 31, 2025), Dhani Singh (retired June 30, 2025) and Vijay Kant (retired April 30, 2025).
Vijay Kant said that it would be welcome if the government grants financial benefits along with the promotion.
