Experts in online fraud, scammers are doing everything in their power to get money into their accounts by tricking people out of crores of rupees through a variety of tactics, such as making phony calls, enticing them with the promise of winning lakhs of rupees, or sending them messages and links on WhatsApp about the advantages of government programs. Meanwhile, the scammers are using yet another new tactic.
Fraudsters are using this new technique to send phony SMS messages to customers’ mobile phones about water and power bills. When the SMS is clicked, the fraudsters receive all the bank account details as well as information on the people’s mobile devices. Following then, there is a chance that the bank account will be depleted as soon as the online fraud game begins. There are several complaints about this coming from various sources. However, in any case pertaining to this, the Northern Zone Cyber Police Station has not received any such complaints.
Praveen Dhiman, ASP Cyber Police Station, Northern Range, Dharamshala says that many means of online fraud are being adopted by the fraudsters. In such a situation, these days a message related to water and electricity is being reported on people’s mobiles. Under this, as soon as one clicks on the message, all the information reaches the fraudsters and there is a possibility of the bank account being emptied. However, till now no complaint related to this fraud has been received under the Cyber Crime Police Station Northern Range.
