Bhavana of Himachal started mushroom farm with 200 bags. Today their turnover has reached lakhs
Mushroom Faaz started with the help of Horticulture Department. After completing their studies, thousands of youth are filling the forms for government jobs, while many are standing in queues for private jobs. Apart from all this, the spirit of Hamirpur chose a different path. Today Bhavna has not only set the flag for success but has also set an example for other youth.
Bhavna Rana, a resident of Bharin village near Hamirpur, is earning lakhs of rupees from mushroom farming in her house. Today, he has given employment to many people directly and indirectly through his mushroom farm. Today everyone is saluting Bhavna’s ‘Bhavna’ for becoming an entrepreneur. At one time Bhavna was looking for a good job after completing her degree in Food Technology from Dehradun. He also worked in real estate for some time, but he did not like this work. Meanwhile, he came to know about the Mushroom Development Scheme of the Horticulture Department, in which there is a provision of subsidy for planting mushroom plants.
Bhavna started mushroom farming at home with 200 bags after receiving subsidy from the Horticulture Department and guidance from departmental officials. Within a few months his new work gained momentum. Gradually he expanded his mushroom farm. Today there are four and a half thousand mushroom bags in his farm.

Loss of Rs 25 lakh in one year
Bhavna told that, ‘In the peak season, she is sending 500 to 1000 packets of mushrooms to the market every day. There is a daily earning of eight to ten thousand rupees in a day and more than two lakh rupees are earned in a month. Last year, around Rs 25 lakhs were earned. My mushroom farm, which started from one room in 2020, is now running from three big halls. I am growing mushrooms in different lots in my entire farm, so that the circle of supply in the market continues regularly.
Gave employment to other women of the village also
Bhavana has also employed 6-7 women of the village. Apart from these women, some other people are also getting employment indirectly from this plant. Bhavna gives credit to the Horticulture Department for becoming a progressive farmer. Bittu, who is working as a laborer in a mushroom farm, says, ‘I have been working here for the last four years. Many other people also come here to work with me.

Deputy Director of Horticulture Department, Rajeshwar Parmar said, ‘Mushroom Development Scheme which is being run by Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Department. Bhavana’s father Santosh Rana has already done mushroom cultivation under this scheme. Seeing the profit in mushroom farming, he engaged his daughter in this business. He demanded the Horticulture Department to set up a bigger unit. He had prepared a case of Rs 20 lakh and sent it to the Horticulture Department. The department provided them under the 40% grant scheme. Mushroom cultivation is a good option for unemployed youth
