· CM attends ‘Medhavi Chatra Sammaan Samaroh’
· Felicitates 222 students, announces Rs 25,000 each from discretionary fund
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today felicitated 222 board toppers of class 10th and 12th of Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education by giving them medals and certificates. These include 92 toppers of class 10th and 90 toppers of class 12th, while 40 toppers of various schools of Shimla city were also felicitated during an event organised by a national daily Hindi newspaper here today.
The Chief Minister announced Rs 25,000 each to all the meritorious students from his discretionary fund and congratulated all achievers. Encouraging the students, he said: “Any person can achieve any goal with strong will and hard work.” Stating that the young generation is the future of Himachal Pradesh, the Chief Minister added that students should also come forward in politics. “I belong to a non-political family, but I always had a desire to serve the people. With years of hard work and facing challenges, I have reached to the post of Chief Minister today,” said the Chief Minister, adding that as a Chief Minister he was working hard to make Himachal self-reliant by year 2027 and the most prosperous state of the country by 2032.
Sh. Sukhu said that when the Congress government was formed around nineteen months ago, the economy of the state was very bad. The present government took many effective steps to improve the state of economy and the positive outcomes could be seen on the ground. “Model code of conduct remained in force for around four months of the present state government’s tenure and another four months were spent in dealing with disaster. However, despite all the hurdles, the state government has earned additional revenue of Rs. 2,200 crores by implemented stringent policies,” remarked the Chief Minister.
He added that the State Government has abolished the subsidy on the electricity for the wealthier sections of the society. This move would ensure that the poor and other eligible sections of the society could be can be benefited in a better way. He said that the state government was working to rehabilitate the disaster affected families. He said that the government was focused on providing quality education. The Chief Minister said: “We took a tough decision to close the government schools with zero or very less enrolment of children. The Congress government does not work for mere political gains. Improving standards of education is our priority. Despite financial constraints, we have decided to fill the vacant posts of teachers to improve education. In the coming time, our government will bring more improvements in the field of education so that quality of education improves because education brings confidence in the students.”
He said that the state government has resolved to open one Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding School in each assembly constituency of the state with the intention of providing better education to the poor children.
On this occasion, Education Minister Rohit Thakur said that improving education is the priority of the state government. The literacy rate in Himachal Pradesh was over 83 percent and over 16,000 educational institutions were providing quality education in the state. “Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister the state government is focusing on providing quality education. In the education department 7,000 vacant posts are being filled and the infrastructure is also being strengthened so that the students of the state can get better education. A cluster system has also been implemented in education for this purpose. In addition, the state government is also making efforts to provide better education in the remote areas of the state,” he added.
The Education Minister said that the state government has sent teachers on international tours so that they can understand the different aspects of the education system followed by progressive countries and implement best education practices in the state.

The Chief Minister is doing praiseworthy work during disaster and providing all possible assistance to the affected people.
