The cultivation of cannabis will be started on a pilot basis on the land of the Agricultural and Forestry Universities located in the state. First it will be used on their land, after which it will be implemented in the state by giving it a legal form. This decision has been taken regarding the matter of giving legal validity to the cultivation of cannabis in the state. On Friday, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena held a meeting with the State Tax and Excise Department along with the Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department and Palampur and Solan Universities regarding this matter. In this meeting held in the Secretariat, the Nauni University and Palampur Agricultural University management submitted their respective reports to the government regarding the cultivation of cannabis.
According to sources, Commissioner Yunus of the State Tax and Excise Department has been told that he will study both the reports and whatever suggestions come from them will be adopted. Earlier, it was asked to start the cultivation of cannabis on a pilot basis on the land of one of these two universities, so that complete information could be obtained about the type of industries and how much cannabis should be used, considering its medicinal value. It will also be seen in the experiment that the cannabis seeds from which place should be used in this cultivation.
Government formed a committee
A committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, which presented its report in the assembly, and it has been approved from there, but many experiments are yet to be done regarding its medicinal use, after which this cultivation can be made legal in Himachal. After the experiments, it will be given a legal form and the State Tax and Excise Department will be its nodal department.
