Advocates for Cultural Preservation and Old-World Radio Charm
Governor Shri Kavindra Gupta inaugurated Radio Kullu 90.4 FM in Kullu, an initiative operated by the Samphia Foundation, sponsored by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and dedicated in memory of the late Smt. Vidisha Bhardwaj. Lady Governor Smt. Bindu Gupta was also present on the occasion.
In a special interview on Radio Kullu 90.4 FM, Governor shared profound insights on preserving local traditions, the timeless legacy of the Kullu Dussehra and the enduring charm of radio as a medium for mass communication.
Highlighting the divine traditions of the State, the Governor noted that Kullu Dussehra is much more than a festival- it is a sacred “Dev Parampara” deeply embedded in the identity of Dev Bhumi Himachal. He expressed deep joy in witnessing people gather in vast numbers alongside their local deities to pay homage at the temple of Lord Raghunath.
“We must know our civilization, culture, and heritage. Thousands of years old traditions will strengthen our roots, and we should take immense pride in our culture.”
He extended his heartfelt prayers for the continued prosperity, peace, and progress of every household across the State through the grace of the deities.
Reflecting on his personal connection to broadcasting, the Governor recalled his early days and how his father, an employee of the Postal Department, witnessed an era when radios required official licenses. He fondly reminisced about the days when a radio was a proud household possession, often found playing at village chaupals alongside community gatherings.
Applauding Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat”, the Governor credited the initiative for successfully reviving radio culture and keeping the traditional medium alive in the modern digital age.
Adding a literary touch to the conversation, the Governor recited a powerful self-composed verse highlighting courage and determination, alongside a lighthearted piece reflecting on everyday life.
On the occasion, the Governor congratulated Gaurav Bhardwaj for launching the radio station in memory of his late mother, Shri Vidisha Bhardwaj.
Dr. Shruti More Bhardwaj, Director, Samphia Foundation, Prof. Shashi Kant Sharma from Department of journalism, HP University Shimla and other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
