Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla while speaking as the Chief Guest during the Silver Jubilee function of Chetna organization at Vijaypur in Bilaspur district today, lauded its efforts towards welfare of specially abled and empowering women.
The Governor said that the organization was instrumental in empowering the disabled, bringing qualitative change in their lives through various sports activities giving them equal opportunities in all fields. Expressing contentment, he said that the organization was working dedicatedly to bring the specially-abled into the main stream of society.
Expressing concern over the increasing illegal drug trade, he appealed to aware the society about the same and urged to start awareness campaigns in this direction and appealed to the parents to come forward and join hands with the government for eradicating the evil from the society up till the panchayat level. “Taking an initiative in this direction, I have asked the universities to take an affidavit from students during admission not to take drugs and action will be taken if the students were found involved in drugs”, he said.
He said that India was a young nation and there was a need to channelize the energy of youth in the right direction, only then India could become a developed Nation by 2047. Under the Prime Ministership of Narendra Modi, all-round development of the country is being ensured and India is recognized globally for the progress and the fame it has earned under his leadership. He said that Himachal Pradesh was also moving on the path of development rapidly.
The Governor also presented the awards in different segments including Startup Youth Award, Farmer Award, Empowered Women Award, Best Vocational Training Award, Wool Industry-Weaver Award etc. He also honored the International players of the Chetna organization.
The Governor also visited the exhibition and evinced keen interest in it.
Earlier, the Governor participated in the digital launch of the components of Multi-Disciplinary Education and Research Universities (MERU) and Grants for Strengthening Universities (GSU) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing and expressed his gratitude to the Central Government for sanctioning funds under various components for these universities.
Dr. Mallika Nadda, National President of Special Olympics and founder of Chetna Sanstha welcomed the Governor and detailed about the activities of the organisation.
Ruma Banerjee, Special Guest also spoke on the occasion.
Purushottam Sharma, President, Chetna also welcomed the Governor.
MLA J.R. Katwal, Director, AIIMS Bilaspur, Dr. Veer Singh Negi and other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
