Shimla, January 21: As part of the campaign to make Himachal Pradesh free from chitta, a special Gram Sabha meeting was held at Gram Panchayat Peeran in the Junga area. The meeting was chaired by Pradhan Kiran Sharma, where Panchayat Secretary Rajiv Thakur administered an oath to the villagers to work collectively towards a chitta-free Himachal.
Addressing the gathering, Pradhan Kiran Sharma appealed to parents to keep a close watch on their children and prevent them from falling into drug abuse. She said the State government is committed to eradicating drugs and public participation is essential to achieve this goal.
During the meeting, Hetram, Pharmacist at Primary Health Centre Trahai, highlighted the ill effects of chitta, explaining that it is derived from opium and has destroyed the lives of many youths. He informed that its consumption can cause serious health problems including fatigue, dizziness, nausea, headaches, irritability and tremors. Patwari Shubham Sharma also shared suggestions to curb drug abuse.
Deputy Pradhan Sanjeev Mehta, ward members, Village Organization Pradhan Bimla Verma, Secretary Vidya Kumari, Anganwadi worker Usha Verma, Kanta Sharma and several women attended the meeting.
Similarly, a special Gram Sabha was organised at Gram Panchayat Koti under the chairmanship of Pradhan Ramesh Sharma, where villagers took a pledge to eliminate chitta. Dr. Nikita, Medical Officer at CHC Koti, educated the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
