Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has said that every person should cooperate towards energy conservation as energy conservation is a big part of sustainable development.
The Governor was addressing the state level painting competition organized by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd under the Energy Conservation National Campaign 2024 here today. He awarded the winners of the competition. Lady Governor Janaki Shukla was also present on the occasion.
The Governor said that the Ministry of Power, Government of India, runs a national awareness campaign towards energy conservation under which painting competitions are organized across the country. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency has been organizing painting competitions for school children since the year 2005. Its objective is to sensitize school students towards energy efficiency and energy conservation in the domestic sector. He said that it is a matter of happiness that SJVN has been successfully fulfilling the responsibility of these competitions for the last many years and so far in the last 19 years more than 20 lakh children have participated in it, out of which about 494 children have been awarded at the state level.
Sh. Shukla said that we have to conserve all the resources of energy. This responsibility is not of only one person, but everyone has to contribute to it, only then we will be able to promote some energy conservation.
He said that SJVN is making all-round progress in the field of power generation. Apart from power generation, the company is also actively participating in the implementation of events like Swachhata Abhiyan, Vigilance Abhiyan etc.
Earlier, Director Personnel, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, Ajay Kumar Sharma gave detailed information related to the competition. He informed that 2 lakh 10 thousand 936 children from 4794 schools of all 12 districts of the state participated at school level. Last year, 1 lakh 57 thousand 500 children from 2650 schools participated at school level. This year, participation has increased in this competition organized at school level. He said that this competition was being organized in three phases at school, state and national level. This year, the theme of the state level painting competition is “Protect the gifts of nature, adopt sustainable change” and “You have the power to save energy”.
Secretary to Governor C.P. Verma, Heads of Departments of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, senior officers, members of the Jury, which included Additional Director of Primary Education Department B.R. Sharma, Head of Department of Visual Arts, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, Prof. Him Chatterjee, Technical Expert of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, Pawan Kumar, Teachers and Parents and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
