Sent to Kaithu Jail for Three Months
Shimla, March 3: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the District Police Shimla has detained a habitual drug offender under the PIT NDPS Act and sent him to judicial custody for three months.
Acting in compliance with the detention order issued by the Himachal Pradesh Government, a team from Police Station Nankhari on March 2, 2026, detained Prem Raj alias ID Mehta alias Santosh Mehta, son of Veer Singh, a resident of village Jagot, Post Office and Tehsil Nankhari, District Shimla. He has been lodged at District Jail Kaithu, Shimla, under preventive detention provisions of the PIT NDPS Act.
Police officials said the action reflects the state government’s firm commitment to curb drug trafficking and enforce strict measures against repeat offenders.
The accused has previously been involved in multiple cases under the NDPS Act, 1985. He has been arrested four times in the past, with two convictions and two cases currently pending before the court.
Major cases registered against him include:
FIR No. 202/2012, Police Station Rampur — 300 grams of charas recovered (Convicted)
FIR No. 42/2018, Police Station Nankhari — 107 grams of charas recovered (Convicted)
FIR No. 47/2023, Police Station Nankhari — 9.93 grams of charas recovered (Pending)
FIR No. 38/2024, Police Station Nankhari — 18.59 grams of heroin (chitta) recovered (Pending)
Considering his repeated involvement in illegal drug trafficking, preventive action under the PIT NDPS Act was initiated in the larger public interest and to safeguard public health.
Officials further informed that over the past month, 24 habitual and organised drug traffickers have been detained under similar orders and sent to jail for three months.
Shimla Police reiterated its commitment to a “zero tolerance” policy against narcotics and stated that strict and effective action will continue to ensure a drug-free society and safeguard the future of the youth.
