Shimla, 28 December
The Congress party organized a tribute meeting for former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at Gandhi Chowk in Hamirpur. On this occasion, Congress workers from all over the district paid tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh by observing silence in his memory. In this meeting, Unorganized Workers and Employees Congress (KKC) State Chairman Rajiv Rana said in a statement that when the Congress government was formed in 1991 under the leadership of Narasimha Rao, Dr. Manmohan Singh took over the command of the country’s finance minister. At that time, the country’s economic condition was so bad that the foreign exchange reserves were reduced to only one billion dollars. At that time, about 47 tons of gold were mortgaged abroad. During the same period, Dr. Manmohan Singh took steps towards stabilizing the country’s economy by adopting the policy of liberalization.
The budget of 24 July 1991 gave a new direction to the Indian economy. Dr. Manmohan Singh ended the license raj in this budget. The economic policies of Dr. Manmohan Singh were amazing in that they played an important role in rescuing the country from the economic crisis.
By the end of the financial year 1991-92, the foreign exchange reserves reached 55.6 billion. By 1994-95, this reserve increased to about $25.2 billion. After this, this reserve continued to grow rapidly in the next few years, and due to the reforms, foreign investment and exports increased.
Thus, the economic policies and reforms of Dr. Manmohan Singh played an important role in relieving the country from the crisis and taking it towards economic strength.” Remembering Manmohan Singh, he further said that when Sonia Gandhi put forward economist Dr. Manmohan Singh to become the prime minister in the year 2004, the main schemes of his government included the right to education, changes in public administration, transparency, accountability, and curbing corruption. Apart from this, the Land Acquisition Act of 2006, the National Food Security Act, and many other reforms related to public interest were the major achievements of his government. “Dr. Manmohan Singh’s second major achievement was the nuclear agreement with America during his tenure as finance minister.” Rajiv Rana said that Dr. Manmohan Singh ji was such a personality whose humility was incomparable. He was silent, but despite this silence, he worked very diligently for the public. He was not just a Sardar but also effective. Salute him a thousand times. On this occasion, KCCB Bank Chairman Kuldeep Singh Pathania, former MLA Anita Verma, AICC Observer Prabhakar Jha, senior Congress leaders Prem Kaushal, Ramchandra Pathania, Dr. Pushpendra Verma, Subhash Dhatwalia, APMC Chairman Ajay Sharma, former District President Naresh Thakur, Scheduled Caste District President Hoshiyaar Singh, Rajesh Chaudhary, Rajesh Anand, Chandan Rana, Akhilesh Chaudhary, former media in-charge Anshul Sharma, Vikram Sharma, and other leaders were present.
