In view of heavy rains, DC Amarjit Singh appealed to take precautions

Heavy rains in most parts of the district for the last two days have caused extensive damage to public and private property. According to information received at the District Emergency Operation Center (DEOC) till Friday afternoon, losses of more than Rs 1.10 crore have been estimated across the district during the last 24 hours.
Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority, Amarjit Singh said that during this monsoon season, the loss of government and private property in Hamirpur district has exceeded Rs 111.35 crore.
During this period, the Jal Shakti Department in the district has suffered the maximum loss of Rs 63.31 crore, the Public Works Department has suffered Rs 45.43 crore, the Electricity Board has suffered Rs 81.69 lakh and the Education Department has suffered Rs 23.68 lakh. The Horticulture Department has sent a report of Rs 18.06 lakh loss to various crops and the Agriculture Department has sent a report of Rs 1.15 lakh loss.
6 kutcha houses have collapsed, causing a loss of about Rs 8 lakh. 37 other kutcha houses and 10 pucca houses have been partially damaged, causing a loss of about Rs 28.96 lakh. 8 other buildings have also suffered damage worth about Rs 4.45 lakh. 82 huts have collapsed across the district, causing a loss of about Rs 67.06 lakh. 53 gaushalas have collapsed, causing a loss of about Rs 28.23 lakh.
The Deputy Commissioner has instructed the field officers and employees of all departments to immediately send the report of the damages caused in their respective areas, so that the affected people can be helped.
He said that in view of the rains, all the residents of the district should take special precautions and not go near rivers and streams. Also stay away from places where landslides are likely. Do not take the risk of going out of the house during heavy rains. Do not take shelter under trees during bad weather and maintain a safe distance from electric wires. People living in areas along the Beas river should not go near the river.
