Solan: Industries Minister Harsh Vardhan Chauhan on Friday inspected proposed sites identified for the removal of trees considered hazardous within the limits of the Solan Municipal Corporation and held discussions with officials.
Out of 13 sites recommended by the Tree Authority Committee for the removal of 28 trees, the minister visited locations near Shiv Mandir in Chambaghat, Lohar Mohalla near the new bus stand, Nahod village, Thodo ground and Khundidhar. He issued necessary directions to the officials concerned.
Chauhan said that in future, tree felling within the municipal limits would be permitted only in cases where there is a genuine threat to life and property. He added that for every tree cut, five saplings would be planted to maintain the green cover.
Highlighting the importance of environmental conservation, the minister said tourism is a key pillar of Himachal Pradesh’s economy and preserving green cover is essential for attracting tourists and protecting the environment. He said all relevant aspects are considered before granting permission for tree felling.
The minister also sought feedback from the Mayor, councillors and officials regarding city beautification, basic amenities and infrastructure needs, and assured that necessary matters would be taken up with the state government.
Among those present were Mayor Usha Sharma, District Congress President Subhash Chand Barmani, councillors, municipal officials and local residents.
