The heavy rains in the ongoing red alert in Himachal Pradesh is proving fatal. The mountains are cracking and the houses are getting frozen like cards. Within the last 24 hours, 12 people have died in landslide and house fall incidents. In many places, people can still be buried in debris, which has made the situation more frightening.
The Meteorological Department has warned of very heavy rains in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi districts till 12 noon today. Apart from this, heavy rains have also been expressed in Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kinnaur, Lahul-Spiti, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan and Una. The department has advised people to avoid going to the banks of river drains and to take precautions. There is a danger of flooding in many districts due to heavy rains.
Before Kullu, the debris, who fell from the mountain in Sundernagar in Mandi district, engulfed two houses. 6 people died in this accident. Four people were from the same family in the dead. It is being told that all the people were sleeping inside the house at the time of the accident.
The debris was so high that the rescue team had to struggle for hours to remove the dead body. A vehicle bumper has also been recovered from the scene, which fears that some people may be buried even more.
1333 roads are closed due to continuous rains and landslides. Due to this, contact of many villages has been cut from the headquarters. Electricity and drinking water schemes have also been affected. The administration says that the restoration work is going on on a war footing to control the situation, but the weather is hindering.
The mountain suddenly slipped late on Monday night in the Akhara market of Kullu district. On seeing this, two houses were hit by it. Two people were buried in the debris of houses. The incident was so fast that the people nearby shouted and ran towards safe places. Relief-rescue team has taken the front immediately on the spot, but due to continuous rains, there is difficulty in rescue work
