The Hon’ble High Court of Punjab & Haryana committee visited the State Forensic Science Laboratory, Junga on June 14, 2024. The committee members included Dhirendra Kumar Tiwari, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, Punjab, V. Neeraja, IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Cyber Crime, Punjab,. Neelkanth S. Avhad, IAS, Principal Secretary, Water Supply and Sanitation, Punjab, Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur Sidhu, IAS, Secretary, Department of Home Affairs & Justice and Director FSL, Punjab and Dr. Ashwani Kalia, Deputy Director, Forensic Science Laboratory.
Punjab. The team inspected the working of Biology & Serology Division, Chemistry & Toxicology Division, Digital Forensics, DNA Division, Document & Photography Division, NDPS Division, Physics & Ballistics Division, Voice Analysis Division, fingerprint Bureau and
Forensic Psychology Division of State Forensic Science Laboratory, Himachal Pradesh, Shimla Hills, Junga.
The committee constituted by Hon’ble High Court of Punjab & Haryana had directed to take stock of the system, standards and parameters of the functioning of the State Forensic Science Laboratory, Junga so that detailed recommendations could be made with the mandate to suggest measures to improve the overall functioning of Forensic Science Laboratory, Punjab.
Dr. Meenakshi Mahajंan, Director, Directorate of Forensics Services, Himachal Pradesh, said that the State Forensic Science Laboratory, Junga has been an accredited Laboratory since 2018. Dr. Mahajan added that the State Forensic Science Laboratory has ten divisions where various criminal cases are investigated and scientific reports are provided to the concerned investigation agencies. The State Forensic Science Laboratory has two Regional Forensic Science Laboratories at Dharamshala and Mandi, and three District Forensic Units at Bilaspur,
Nurpur and Baddi. District Forensic Units have been established for scene-of-crime investigations. The Directorate of Forensics Services is a member of the Asian Forensic Science Services Network (AFSN) and is also an authorized centre for the examination of cases registered by
the CBI and NIA.
