Chamba 1September
For the past several hours, the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Una, Hamirpur, and Kangra have been experiencing rain. Rivers and sewers are overflowing as a result. There have been reports of landslides and flash floods. In several places, this has resulted in the destruction of numerous buildings and roadways. A few homes are in jeopardy. Currently, people are evacuating their houses. Additionally, a two-day red rain notice has been issued by the Meteorological Department.
At the same time, the rain has made things really awful in the Chamba district. Since August 25, it has been raining continuously. As a result, on August 27, the Manimahesh Yatra was abruptly halted. This year’s yatra was scheduled to end on September 8 after beginning on August 15. However, the management has chosen to end it early due to the severe rains. Over 15,000 devotees became trapped on the roadways as a result of landslides that happened during the Yatra and several bridges and roads damaged by the heavy rains. However, 16 people have lost their lives during the Mani Mahesh Yatra thus far this year. Teams from the NDRF are working to rescue and provide aid to the trapped devotees.
DC Chamba said that ‘NDRF and SDRF teams safely transported thousands of devotees stranded due to heavy rains, landslides and bad weather from Mani Mahesh Dal Lake to Hadsar and then Bharmour in difficult conditions. Roads were badly damaged due to landslides, making the rescue operation extremely challenging.’ At the same time, more than 10,000 devotees managed to reach Kalsui on foot, from where they were transported to Chamba, Pathankot and Jammu by Transport Corporation buses and private vehicles arranged by local people.’
