For Himachal Pradesh, this is a moment of pride. The coveted President’s Medal has been given to Vimukt Ranjan, a 2009 batch All India Police Service (IPS) officer from the state who is now assigned as the DIG in the Special Protection Group (SPG), in recognition of his exceptional and noteworthy service.
This medal is given for exceptional contribution in the field of internal security and special services of the country. Vimukt Ranjan, a resident of Hamirpur district, after his schooling, obtained a bachelor’s degree from Government College Dharamshala. On the basis of his hard work and dedication, he entered the Indian Police Service and held many important responsibilities in his career.
In the year 2023, he joined the SPG on deputation to New Delhi. This is the same force that handles the security of the prime minister, former prime ministers, and other high-ranking dignitaries. Currently, as DIG, Ranjan is considered an important pillar of the country’s VIP security system.
Before going to Delhi, Ranjan was posted as the Commandant of the Vangarh Battalion in Una. Prior to this, he served as the Superintendent of Police of Kangra district, where he maintained law and order as well as launched a massive campaign against drug smugglers. This campaign resulted in the arrest of dozens of accused and the recovery of large quantities of drugs.
