Shimla, April 4, 2026:
The Government of Himachal Pradesh, Department of Urban Development, has issued a notification regarding the reservation of Chairperson posts in Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, and Nagar Panchayats across the state.
The notification has been issued under Section 12 of the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Act, 1994, read with Rule 12 of the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Election Rules, 2015. As per the order, reservations have been finalized for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Women categories.
SC Category Reservations
Several urban local bodies have been reserved under the Scheduled Caste category, including:
Nagar Panchayat Daulatpur (Una) – SC (Women)
Municipal Council Chamba – SC (Women)
Nagar Panchayat Banjar (Kullu) – SC (Women)
Municipal Council Bilaspur – SC (Women)
Municipal Council Sundernagar (Mandi) – SC (Women)
Additionally, Mehatpur Basdehra (Una), Nagrota Bagwan (Kangra), Ghumarwin (Bilaspur), Rohroo and Chirgaon (Shimla) have been reserved under SC category.
ST Category Reservation
Nagar Panchayat Shahpur (Kangra) has been reserved for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
Women (General) Category Reservations
A large number of urban bodies have been reserved for women, including:
Nirmand (Kullu), Arki (Solan), Jawalamukhi (Kangra)
Kandaghat (Solan), Santokhgarh & Amb (Una)
Kullu, Nurpur (Kangra), Theog (Shimla)
Nahan & Paonta Sahib (Sirmaur)
Sarkaghat (Mandi), Sujanpur Tihra (Hamirpur)
Sunni, Chopal, Jubbal, Narkanda (Shimla)
Dalhousie (Chamba), Tahliwal (Una)
Administrative Details
The notification has been issued with the approval of the Governor of Himachal Pradesh and signed by Devesh Kumar, Principal Secretary (Urban Development).
Copies of the notification have been sent to the State Election Commission, Deputy Commissioners, and all concerned municipal authorities for implementation.
