The court ordered the food vendors to paste a notice in the reception area. Also, provide separate dustbins for wet and dry waste.
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh High Court has ordered all hotel, restaurant, home-stay, bed and breakfast (B&B), Dhaba owners to put up a notice related to a fine of up to Rs 5,000 for spreading garbage in the commercial establishment. According to the High Court, it is mandatory to put up this notice. The court ordered the said food vendors to paste a notice/post in the reception area, informing that a fine of up to Rs 5,000 will be imposed for improper garbage disposal and spreading garbage.
Apart from this, the court has also asked to ensure that separate dustbins are provided for wet and dry waste at the reception/counter or other convenient places. The division bench of Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Sushil Kukreja issued these orders after hearing the cases related to waste management and air pollution. The court has ordered the shopkeeper, the concerned sanitation officer or the officer in charge to ensure compliance of these orders. The court also directed the Rural Development Department, Environment, Science and Technology Department and Urban Development Department and Panchayati Raj Department to ensure that challan books are made available to all panchayats, nagar panchayats, urban local bodies, so that they can issue challans under the Himachal Pradesh Non-Biodegradable Waste (Control) Act, 1995.
