The Himachal Pradesh Library Association (HPLA) convened a significant meeting on May 19, 2024, at the esteemed Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), led by Dr. Suresh K Chauhan, Deputy Librarian at JUIT. The event commenced at 11:00 AM, with a gracious welcome from Prof. A S Chandel, UGC Emeritus Fellow, setting the tone for the day’s discussions. Dr. Chauhan provided an insightful overview of HPLA, marking the beginning of deliberations on various agenda items. Key highlights included the General Body election of HPLA and the inaugurating a dynamic website. The discussions were multifaceted, covering essential topics such as finalizing the HPLA logo, addressing vacancies in libraries across the State, enhancing the proficiency of library professionals, and fostering collaborative efforts.
Under the guidance of Mr. Mr. Gautam Bahl, appointed Returning Officer for the HPLA election, the members decided that the existing governing body would continue until the next election cycle. In a momentous gesture, Prof. Chandel and Prem Chand, President of HPLA and librarian at the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla, inaugurated the new HPLA website (https://hpla.in), symbolizing a leap forward in digital presence and outreach.
Amidst the proceedings, members were treated to a campus tour, marveling at JUIT’s impressive infrastructure. The meeting drew to a close at 3:00 PM, with expressions of gratitude extended by the President, acknowledging the collective efforts to advance the realm of libraries and librarianship in Himachal Pradesh.
