Shimla, December 17, 2024 : Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the dynamic leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first university in the state to fully digitize its marksheets. The marksheets, now available through the National Academic Depository (NAD) on the DigiLocker platform, will ensure the seamless accessibility and secure validation of academic awards for over 2,000 students.
This significant achievement aligns with the directives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, reinforcing HPNLU’s commitment to academic excellence, transparency, and technological advancement. The university has successfully complied with the University Grants Commission (UGC) mandate by updating student progress on the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), facilitating greater mobility and flexibility for students to pursue education across various higher education institutions in India.
The digitization of marksheets is a direct response to the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages a shift towards a flexible, student-centric educational system. The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), a key element of NEP 2020, is designed to promote academic mobility by allowing students the freedom to transfer credits earned across various Higher Education Institutions. This innovative system ensures that students’ academic progress is securely stored and easily accessible, fostering a more inclusive and adaptable educational framework.
The initiative to upload marksheets to the National Academic Depository (NAD) is part of a larger effort by the Government of India to create a secure and user-friendly platform for the storage and retrieval of academic awards. NAD minimizes the risks of fraudulent activities such as certificate forgery and marksheet duplication by enabling online verification and validation. This digital repository guarantees the authenticity of educational documents and assures their security, contributing to a fraud-free education ecosystem.
The DigiLocker platform, integrated with NAD, acts as a 24×7 online storehouse for all academic records. Through this platform, students can access, verify, and download their marksheets, diplomas, degrees, and other certificates at any time, from anywhere in the world. This accessibility not only enhances convenience but also streamlines the process for employers, educational institutions, and other stakeholders who may require verification of academic credentials.
With the full implementation of NAD and DigiLocker, HPNLU students now enjoy several key benefits: they can download their marksheets and other academic certificates anytime, from anywhere, using the DigiLocker app. The marksheets are securely stored, and the NAD system guarantees their validity and protects against fraudulent practices.
HPNLU’s move to digitize marksheets represents a major step towards modernizing the educational experience in Himachal Pradesh. As the first university in the state to achieve this goal, HPNLU sets an exemplary standard for other institutions to follow, demonstrating leadership in both education and technological innovation. HPNLU’s achievement marks a proud moment for the institution and is a testament to the university’s commitment to providing high-quality, transparent, and secure education. Through this initiative, HPNLU is not only embracing the digital future but also empowering its students with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving academic world.
