Youth must stay connected with folk culture and traditions: Anurag Thakur

Former Union Minister and Member of Parliament from Hamirpur, Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur, attended “Jhankaar – The Presidential Fest” at Punjab University, organized to celebrate the historic victory of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). On the occasion, he encouraged young participants during the cultural program and urged them to stay connected with India’s rich folk culture and traditions.
Mr. Thakur said, “Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, and Uttarakhand together represent the ‘Sapt Sindhu’ of Bharat Mata. Whether it is Giddha, Bhangra, Himachali Nati, or Uttarakhand’s Chholiya and Pandav dance—these are all integral parts of our rich cultural heritage. India’s strength lies in its diversity and traditions. Such cultural events connect the youth with their roots and provide them an opportunity to understand the nation’s cultural legacy.”
He further added that active engagement of youth in culture, politics, and parliamentary traditions is a positive sign. “The vision of a developed India cannot be realized without the participation of the youth,” he said.
Mr. Thakur also stated, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisioned bringing one lakh capable youth into active politics. I believe each one of you has the potential—you have vision, mission, and dedication. I have also launched a leadership/fellowship training program called ‘Yuva Changemaker’ for the youth of Himachal, which has already received over 10,000 registrations. Selected candidates will be provided leadership training.”
During the event, several traditional performances showcasing Himachali culture were presented, including Himachali Nati, Sirmauri Nati, and Kinnauri Nati, along with Ladakhi and Manipuri dances. The vibrant traditional attire and folk music added to the festive atmosphere.
MLA from Dharamshala, Mr. Sudhir Sharma, was also present as a special guest. The event was organized jointly by ABVP and the Punjab University Campus Students Council.
