Two people died when a tractor was swept away in the strong current of the Sombhadra River in Kuthehra Jaswala village of Gagret subdivision of Una district. The body of one was found buried under the tractor, while the body of the other was found buried at some distance in the Sombhadra river. Gagret police has sent the bodies to the Regional Hospital Una for postmortem.
According to the information, Sanjeev Kumar (49) son of Yashpal and Surjeevan (49) son of Roshan Singh of Kuthehra Jaswala were returning after ploughing their fields in Nandpur across the Sombhadra river on Monday night. At that time, the Sombhadra river was in spate. Due to darkness, they could not estimate the depth of the water. As soon as they brought the tractor into the river, it suddenly overturned. Due to this, the young man sitting on the tractor was swept away with the flow of water and the tractor driver got buried under the tractor.
Someone saw the accident and immediately called people for help. People pulled Surjeevan out from under the tractor, but by then he had died. Sanjeev’s body was also recovered about 200 meters away from the incident spot. Both were married. Surjeevan has 2 daughters and Sanjeev has a son and a daughter. ASP Sanjeev Bhatia said that both the bodies have been sent to the Regional Hospital Una for post-mortem.
