A 22-year-old woman has died after a multi-story building collapsed in Mohali, Punjab. The deceased has been identified as Drishti Verma (20), daughter of the late Bhagat Verma, a resident of Theog, Himachal Pradesh. According to the information, Drishti Verma was trapped in this building, who was rescued from the debris by the National Disaster Management Force (NDRF) and sent to Sohana Hospital in critical condition, but she died during treatment there. The accident happened in the morning when a part of the building collapsed. After this incident, many other people are feared to be trapped in the debris, and rescue work is going on. Administration and rescue teams are engaged in relief work on the spot.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed deep condolences on this tragic incident. He said that the entire administration and rescue teams are deployed on the spot and are trying to bring the situation under control as soon as possible. The CM also said that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the collapse of the building. He has maintained constant contact with the administration.
It is being told that gym and PG were being run illegally in this building. At the time of the accident, many people were exercising inside the gym. According to the information, digging was going on in the basement of the building, due to which structural weaknesses arose and this accident happened. At the time of the incident, PG was running on the first and second floors of the building, while there was a gym on the third floor. Many people present inside the gym may also be injured in the accident. At present, the work of evacuating the people trapped in the debris is going on, and the rescue teams are trying their best.
The family of Drishti Verma, who belongs to Theog in Himachal Pradesh, was deeply shocked as soon as the news of this accident was received. The family members and relatives are in mourning and are expecting justice from the administration. The police have lodged an FIR against the owners of the building.
