Shimla, April 5. The second section conference of the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti, Tutu unit, was held in Shoghi. The conference discussed the Gyan Vigyan Samiti’s vision, reviewed past work, and charted future course of action.
State Secretary Satyawan Pundir inaugurated the conference. Discussing the committee’s objectives and programs, he explained that over the past two years, the committee has organized numerous activities related to health, the growing drug addiction crisis among youth, education, the environment, women’s equality, and scientific perspectives. He stated that the committee’s primary objective has been the Save Youth Campaign against Drug Abuse.
He said that this conference is being held at Shoghi, the historic site where the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti launched a literacy campaign with public support in 15 panchayats of the Mashobra block on March 1, 1992. This model was later recognized by the National Literacy Mission and the Himachal government.
On this occasion, a new 15-member block executive committee was formed, with Hiranand Shandil appointed president, Devkinand Sharma as vice president, Pooja as secretary, Leela Sharma as treasurer, and Santosh as co-secretary. Satya Sharma, Hemavati, Abhishek, Rajni, Anju, Manjusha, Gianand Sharma, Meena, and Meera were also elected as members of the committee.
The conference paid tribute to the state’s first neo-literate, the late Chandu Devi. She inspired women to pursue education and sparked the literacy movement in the state. The contributions of the late Bal Krishna Shastri, the late Mansa Ram Sharma, and the late Chandra Devi to the organization were also remembered.
National Convenor of Samata Sub Committee, Ms. Sumitra Chandel stressed on the formation of membership and committees at the Panchayat level and stressed the need to strengthen the foundation of the organization.
Hiranand Shandil presented a report on the committee’s two-year work. He said that the Tutu unit was formed two years ago. Subsequently, the block unit conducted activities related to anti-drug activities, legal literacy, and the promotion of a scientific outlook at the block level. A total of 27 participants attended the conference.
