The HIV diagnostic laboratory of the department of Microbiology, IGMC, Shimla has become the first laboratory in the State to be accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NABL).
Disclosing this here today, Secretary, Health M. Sudha Devi said that the HIV diagnostic laboratory of the department of Microbiology working under HP AIDS Control Society has met the requirements of ISO 15189:2012 NABL: 112 with the certification granted by the NABL on 27th May, 2024.
She informed that this laboratory was providing high quality healthcare services and the certification by the NABL shows that it was ensuring high standard and reliable services.
M. Sudha Devi said that the National Accreditation Board for training and calibration laboratories was a constituent Board of the Quality Council of India which involves third party assessment of the laboratory for technical proficiency of training the NABL accreditation was important for HIV diagnostic laboratories as it ensures adherence to international standards of quality competence.
She added that it also enhances the credibility of the laboratory’s capabilities among patients, healthcare providers and regulatory bodies. Moreover, NABL promotes continuous improvement and a robust quality management system.
